Phonetic Translation Videos: Benny Lava
I posted a while back about so-called literal version videos, but I just ran across phonetic translation videos, which have a totally different potential. The above is the best example I've seen.
Jatin, I assume you understand this song; does it still work if you know the language? Can you suspend disbelief and take the "subtitles" as a transcription of the lyrics? Either way, you should be interested to see how popular Indian sources are for these phonetic translations--but most of them are far less successful. In any case, given your work on cultural exchange and translation in a broader sense, I'd like to hear your thoughts about this.

Für mich weniger wissenschaftlich Interessierten ist dies eindeutig das Werbevideo eines entsprechenden Reiseveranstalters (vermutlich "Gay Nuns Tours"), das im Rahmen einer viralen Marketingkampagne eingesetzt wird und die (westliche) Welt im Sturm (bzw. per Mausklick) erobern soll/wird. Indien dürfte sich auf eine nie gekannte Touristenflut einstellen. Viele allerdings werden weniger kulturelle und eher profane Ziele verfolgen (vgl. "Have you been high today?").
Aber das gehört dazu, wer die Welt anlocken will, muss auch mit den niedereren menschlichen Motiven leben...
